From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The garments, designed by Studio Alch, are available in two-tone red and green or a black version and are created out of old post bags. The pieces all include fragments of the company’s logo and will cost customers £445.
The collaboration, which is available to buy in store and online, also features a black gilet for £400 and tote bags that come in two sizes – a small green one for £70 and a larger red one for £80.
The range features items designed by Labrum London as well as hoodies, t-shirts, hats, mugs and baubles all made with the help of the team at Royal Mail.
On Twitter, hundreds of shoppers and postal workers have been joking about the collection and its high price tag.
“Seriously? Who would wear this,” one person wrote, while another added: “Ffs I've seen it all now."
A third person wrote: "If anyone’s interested, I can sell you my tatty old Royal Mail work boots to go with it for £1500 lmao,” and another commented: “Need to take a few bags home and get a sewing machine.”
Some posties were less impressed by the range, claiming that the mail sacks are notoriously difficult to get hold of.
“That's where all the sacks have disappeared to,” one person wrote, while another said: “There's going to be a bag famine.”
According to Selfridges, the collaboration was created “to pay a worthy tribute to the British icon”.
“While we continue to stay connected to those we can't visit in person, we're celebrating the power of the post, and the sense of closeness and community it brings, with Royal Mail,” the retailer says.
"To pay a worthy tribute to the British icon - delivering through rain and shine for over 500 years - we've delivered an exclusive collection of post-inspired fashion, homeware and accessories, and set up our very own Royal Mail pop-up at Selfridges London, just in time for ticking off your Christmas list."
The Selfridges x Royal Mail collection is available to buy in store and online.
