The royal is said to have been “heavily involved” in designing the scarf, which has been released to mark the 10th anniversary of his Campaign for Wool. Charles launched the initiative in 2010 to help educate consumers about the benefits of wool and to support and grow the wool industry.
The scarf, which costs £150, is available in blue, grey and pink, and comes woven with exaggerated checks, stripes and houndstooth, as well as being tipped with twisted fringing.
Charles said he was “delighted” to mark the wool organisation's anniversary with the launch of the scarf and commented on how the textile production process needs to change.
“It is abundantly clear to me that we need to make changes to the way we think about the production, use and the disposal of clothing and textiles if we are going to get anywhere near to meeting the United Nations climate change goals set for the industry,” the Prince said in an online statement.
“A major part of that change has to be moving from a linear system to a circular one, where textiles and clothing are produced sustainably, enjoy long use, and are made using materials which will biodegrade naturally and quickly at the end of their useful life.”
The new scarf has been produced to highlight the sustainability and durability of wool, with the material used to make it coming from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.
“Wool's sustainable and biodegradable properties provide a unique natural option for us all to reassess for environmental values and purchases,” Charles said.
“We need to put nature at the heart of how we operate and to evolve our economic model, putting people and planet at the heart of global value creation.”
Amy Powney, chief executive of Mother of Pearl, who helped create the scarf, said the design "began appropriately by looking at The Prince of Wales check, adding a twist to its classic design and affirming its natural wool composition with jacquard text."
She added: “I hoped to merge classic with modernity, to celebrate what we should take from the past and what we need to do to safeguard our futures.”
The new scarf is available to purchase at Net-a-Porter, Mother of Pearl and Johnstons of Elgin.
All of the profits from each sale are being donated to The Prince’s Foundation’s Future Textiles initiative, with the total donation estimated to reach £10,206.
Last month, Charles released an entire collection of clothing in collaboration with Net-a-Porter.
The 18-piece capsule collection was created through a partnership between The Prince’s Foundation and the fashion retailer, resulting in 10 items of womenswear and eight pieces of menswear inspired by Leonardo da Vinci.
