From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Sunday 24 February, Hollywood’s most lauded industry members took to the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to celebrate the ingenuity, talent, and creativity contributed by artists, screenwriters, directors and more over the last 12 months.
However, while the carpet lining the entrance of the venue may have been a ruby red colour, the most memorable colour of the was pink, ranging from shades of fuchsia and bubblegum to rose and coral tones.
The sartorial choice of colour comes just over a week since fashion designer Molly Goddard displayed a similar choice of colour palette at her recent London Fashion Week runway show (think Killing Eve’s Villanelle’s pink tulle midi-dress but bigger).
And the popularity of the colour didn’t go unnoticed among the A-listers, with Helen Mirren mentioning its dominance in the room as she presented the award for Best Documentary with actor Jason Momoa.
"I swear to God, Jason and I didn't coordinate our outfits tonight," she said.
"But it just goes to show, doesn't it, that these days a Hawaiian god and a very mature English woman can actually wear the same colour. We can both wear pink!"
Tonight, Grammy-award winner Kacey Musgraves looked a vision in a soft pink Giambattista Valli couture dress featuring layers of thin tulle and structured shoulders.
Meanwhile, actor Angela Bassett sported a hot pink one-shouldered Reem Acra dress with an oversized bow.
