From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The "affordable" range was designed by Donatella Versace and promises to draw inspiration from the "vibrant heritage" of the Versace brand, an H&M spokeswoman said.
She said the "exclusive" collection - which will include pieces for women and men and homeware - will be full of "print, colour and exuberance".
The autumn collection is to be sold in 300 H&M stores worldwide and online from November 17.
"I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience," said Ms Versace - the sister of Gianni Versace who founded the brand in 1978.
"The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere."
The designer has also created a pre-spring line for the Swedish retailer to be launched in January next year.
Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M, added: "Versace is one of the most important brands of recent times, and their collection for H&M will be glamorous and flamboyant - everything Versace stands for.
"Donatella Versace is sharing with us iconic designs from the archives. This is such a celebratory collaboration and it is perfect for the party season."
The high street store has previously collaborated with designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garcons, Jimmy Choo and, most recently, Lanvin.
