Tom Ford has denied rumours that he is in talks to return to Gucci after the departure of Frida Giannini from the label.

Page Six reported on Tuesday that Ford's name "has been mentioned as the next designer for the Italian fashion house."

Gucci are on the look out for a replacement following the departure of Giannini who it was announced this week, has left a month earlier than planned.

Giannini has departed the company at a time of big upheaval for the brand which has also seen the departure of her partner Patrizio di Marco who was CEO of the company.

Ford spent 10 years at the helm of Gucci from 1994 - 2004 and is credited for reviving the fortunes of the brand.

Since then Ford has established his own label which spans across menswear, womenswear, eyewear and a hugely successful cosmetics and fragrances branch.

He has vehemently denied the rumours with a rep for the designer stating:

"This is absolutely and completely unfounded. His own brand is growing dramatically and he views that as the next 30 years of his life."

It is expected that the in house team at Gucci will take charge whilst a replacement is sought.

Other names in the hat include Riccardo Tisci who is currently at Givenchy and Peter Dundas of Emilio Pucci.

Gucci will present it's autumn/winter 2015 menswear collection in Milan on Monday with a womenswear show taking place later next month.
