For its spring/summer 2015 Milan Fashion Week show, presented yesterday and entitled “Viva la mamma” (Hurray for Mum), the Italian fashion house introduced mums, children and a pregnant woman on the catwalk to present a collection that celebrates motherhood in all its stages, shaking the traditional model line-up.
The pregnant model walked the catwalk in a tailored, figure-hugging, pale pink dress that showed the black straps of her bra, teamed with a black satchel handbag, while carrying a big smile on.
However, this is not the first time a pregnant woman has graced the runway. Last year Karl Lagerfeld closed his Chanel show with a mother-to-be walking on his arms.
Back in 2010, American supermodel Miranda Kerr stunned down Balenciaga Spring 2011 show during Paris fashion week with just three months shy of giving birth to her son, Flynn. Also, Victoria’s Secret Angel and Brazilian beauty Alessandra Ambrosio walked her five-months-pregnant belly on the runway at the Colcci show during Sao Paolo fashion week in 2012.
With the inclusion of a variety of ethnicities, sizes, shapes, and now, pregnant women, fashion keeps broadening the interpretation of what a woman is.
