Manolo Blahnik has launched his first ever collection of handbags and the clutches are a design made in Carrie Bradshaw's fashion heaven.
The shoe master has taken his iconic satin shoes with shiny buckles to create a capsule collection of six clutch bags - all squared and egg-shaped.
Like the shoes, the bags are made in a rainbow of satin hues and fine crepe, embellished with encrusted Swarovski crystals, which are the focal point of the luxury designs. Inspired by the shoe buckle, they look pretty similar just bigger and shinier.
“This collection came up because it is something that I really wanted to do - I had no rush in getting this done,” he said. “I like to make things beautifully and sometimes to get something right it takes time. At the moment I have no plans to make other accessories. For the moment I would like to enjoy the bags, and I am already thinking about more bags for next season!”
Priced between £1320 and £1480, the handbags cost almost double the price of the shoes – the Hangisi pumps, for example, cost around £680 - but despite the staggering price tag they might still become one of the most desired fashion accessories, just like the satin pumps.
"Every woman needs a jewel. Something very special and beautiful. There is nothing more stunning than a feminine hand holding a gem-like object," said Blahnik.
Besides Sarah Jessica Parker's obsession with the label in Sex and the City, Blahnik’s got a huge celebrity following and one of the highlights is Anna Wintour. The legendary Vogue editor has been seen wearing the same cross-front slingbacks from the 73-year-old footwear designer for over 20 years now - she’s said to own them in variety of colours.
The luxury collection is due to hit stores at the end of July and will be available at its London flagship on Old Church Street, Liberty and Harrods.
