As many of his fans might know, West is probably the only celebrity whose roles include both musician and fashion designer. He’s even known for his outspoken opinions about the fashion industry, including: "No flip-flops on black dudes. Wear some hot-ass Jordans on the beach” and "I'm talkin' about us, the new slaves, the people who love fashion. I'm talking about us, you know? 'Cause I'm a slave to it. I love it.”
In 2012 he launched his own label of womenswear and made his Paris Fashion Week debut, but the industry gave the 37-year-old rapper less than flattering reviews.
However, he then collaborated with French label APC, which sold out within hours. Following its success, earlier this year he presented his second collaboration for the same brand, which showcased six complete menswear looks that included fur coats, cargo trousers and knits, all paired up with hip-hop-classic Timberlands.
Last year, he turned into “Professor Yeezy” after he taught students fashion design at an LA school as part of his community service.
This year, instead of reviving his failed fashion house, he joins forces with sportswear giant Adidas and launches a collaboration that is set to hit stores in the coming weeks. The collection will be unveiled with a presentation at New York Fashion Week later this month. According to Complex, invitations to the event have been sent and will reportedly take place on 12 February.
A fashion week presentation done the right way could get West back in the business and pursue the fashion designer career he’s been working for.
