Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

It may be cold outside, but in fashion terms the new season is here with spring/summer advertising campaigns launching daily.

Today Julia Roberts was unveiled as the new star of Givenchy.

In an announcement by the brand Roberts, 47, is described as "generational icon of beauty and elegance."

"As the embodiment of the Givenchy woman, Julia showcases all facets of that character with strength and eternal style."

Roberts is pictured in an classic boxy-style Givenchy suit with minimal hair and makeup.

The image was photographer by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot and styled by Katy England.

Speaking to style.com about casting Roberts for the campaign Tisci said:

"I respect her a lot as a beauty and as a woman. She’s a very intelligent girl. And a very funny girl. Super-funny. And very confident of herself, which is very much my woman, you know like Marina [Abramovic], Mariacarla [Boscono]."

Commented on the more paired back nature of the campaign, Tisci said:

"Sometimes you shoot someone who’s so popular, you try to make it glam, but I really wanted her the way she arrived: black jacket, men’s shirt, jeans, which is really what we have in common. No hair, no makeup. I said to her, “Because your smile is so beautiful and everybody knows you for that, I think it should be no smile,” and she was really cool. She said we should go for it. We did it, and there we are, I’m very happy. It’s a powerful picture."

Givenchy's creative director Riccardo Tisci has garnered a reputation for casting unusual stars in it's campaign with Marina Abramovic and Isabelle Huppert featuring in previous campaigns.

It is perhaps not such a surprising choice for Tisci, who has dressed Roberts numerous times over the past few years including at the 2014 Oscars.

For Roberts, this is not her debut commercial campaign, she is also the face of beauty brand Lancome.
