From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. While most designers kept their makeup simple this season and 'slept-in' eyeliner was the trend du jour, a handful of designers at February's New York Fashion Week for autumn 2010 went for a more daring stare, with celebrities already adopting the look on the red carpet.
Kate Moss previously premiered a bold cat eye for her most recent Topshop campaign, which she combined with big earrings and a sleek high bun (a look that's been copied many times since and promises to be a major trend this year), and this season, New York designers are taking the look a few steps further.
Zac Posen went for an exaggerated, straight eyeliner both on the lid and underneath the eye to create a look that was "trashy with dignity," as he described it to style.com.
More daring was only Jeremy Scott, who gave his models 'winged eyes,' with three bold lines of eyeliner coming together at the temples.
Adopting the new trend of the boldly lined eye, Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester was spotted this week sporting an extreme sporty eye with cat eyeliner, reminiscent of Kate Moss's.
The supermodel also inspired another look this New York fashion week: her messy hair already was all the rage in the beginning of the 1990s and is back with a bang this season, with many designers citing the look as an influence for their 'don't care hair.'
Alexander Wang went even further than that, styling his models in unwashed-looking dos, in tune with the current grunge influences.
The trend went beyond hair, however, with labels such as Rag & Bone creating looks that seemed as if models had slept in their makeup, i.e., eyeliner. A makeup artist working on Kristen Stewart's Twilight look just told the media this month that Stewart would actually sleep in her eyeliner in order to achieve a natural, grungy, 'neglected' makeup.
