Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Belgian designer Martin Margiela has opened an archive of over 100 one-of-a-kind pieces to the public on yoox.com.

Clothes on sale span the years 2005-2009 and include the infamous 'wig jacket,' selling at $11,795, which seems almost reasonable considering that it took 50 hours to make, as well as the 'record dress' ($8,775).

A leather jacket made from cut and flattened soccer balls goes for $8,995, while an evening gown entirely constructed from shoestrings is listed for $6,295.

The least expensive piece of the collection, a men's jacket made of fabric cut-outs, goes for $2,425.

Margiela is regarded as one of the most mysterious figures in fashion due to his secrecy and shyness, which makes this sudden 'democratic' move of selling his museum-ripe pieces on a non-exclusive shopping site even more extraordinary.
