From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Uniqlo has announced it is to release a collection of clothing designed by Carine Roitfeld.

The ex-editor of French Vogue who went on to found bi-annual fashion magazine CR Fashion Book and is currently Global Fashion Director of Harper's Bazaar, is turning her hand to design.

The collection, which will be released in October will consist of 40 items designed by Roitfeld for the store.

Commenting on the news Roitfeld said:

“I feel joy at creating new mode expressions. I am constantly asking myself what these are, and creating new clothing within the UNIQLO LifeWear concept is a great challenge."

"I started from the idea of clothes that I would want to wear myself, and developed this into clothes that anyone would want to wear, a woman’s ideal of clothes that make her feel transformed when she wears them”

Roitfeld hinted at the collaboration in the latest issue of CR Fashion Book released last month, which included Uniqlo in a feature on re-imagined fantasy fashion campaigns.

Uniqlo has a long history of fashion collaborations including its much-praised collections with Jil Sander and more recent ranges by the likes of Pharrell Williams and Ines de la Fressange.

Roitfeld is famous for her signature sexy styling epitomised by her work with Tom Ford at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent - how this will translate into designs for Uniqlo - the store famous for its everyday basics, remains to be seen.
