Those who feel a little too refined to source out the genuine article, or are reluctant to undertake such a deliberate copy-cat look, take note. Some of the best on offer comes from the high-street chain Jigsaw, while even Marks & Spencer has not ignored the Army look (the M&S fatigues range includes a khaki safari skirt at £21). Jigsaw has combat trousers, bomber jackets, shirts and dresses. All come in khaki, as a capsule collection with direct inspiration from Army wear. Designs come in a 100 per cent lightweight silk, which offers a new twist to the traditional bulkiness of military clothing. It is refreshing to see the look this time as part of our summer wardrobe - we're all used to thinking of military clothes in terms of coats and jumpers. This is a far cry from the sugary sweet pastels of the moment, or the glamour puss look that some of us have not yet perfected. This is a realistic style that does not demand inches of leg or the strappiest of heels. So, women, get stomping.
