From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The collaboration between the luxury Italian fashion designer and the life-simulation video game includes a range of Sim-like clothing that will finally let you dress yourself as your Sim - and not the other way around.
The line, which comes as The Sims is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, consists of pixelated clothing, designed to resemble jeans and leather jackets, accessories, swimwear and phone cases.
You can also embrace your inner Sim with your own plumbob - the signature green floating diamonds above their heads - emblazoned on an umbrella and a bathing suit, or as earrings.
The Sims will also be able to wear at least one item from the collection, a Freezer Bunny hoodie, in The Sims universe.
Of the latest collaboration, which highlights the "freedom of self-expression and creativity," Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott said: “I love the idea of being able to imagine, design and bring to life a world of individual personas with The Sims universe.
“That concept emulates what I get to do for each collection at Moschino as I create a fantasy universe of spectacular storylines and characters.”
On social media, the collaboration has already proven to be a success, with people eager to buy items from the capsule that reminds them of their childhood.
“This Moschino x The Sims collaboration is what I’ve been waiting for my whole life,” one person wrote.
Another said: “I’m so confused but I’ll take one of everything, thanks.”
The collection of ready-to-wear items as well as a limited run of eight Moschino x The Sims items will be available at Moschino boutiques worldwide and online on 13 April.
