Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.US modeling agency Wilhelmina is looking for women aged 40 or older to shake up the fashion industry.
Partnering with companies including shapewear brand Miraclesuit, department store Macy's, and beauty giant Estée Lauder, Wilhelmina has also succeeded in taking onboard Randall Christensen, the Emmy-winning costume designer of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, who will advise and judge the contestants.
The winner will receive a modeling contract with the agency, a $1,000 gift card to Macy's, a photo shoot courtesy of Miraclesuit, and a makeover by Christensen, among others. US residents above the age of 40 were invited to apply at four casting calls (New York on March 12, Miami on April 9, and Chicago and LA on May 21), by mail or online by May 24, with the winner being announced in New York on June 30.
The search is limited to the US, but it is part of a global trend that has seen more diverse models hit runways and fashion magazines: this fashion week season, the UK's Look magazine launched a search for "a curvy supermodel," for example, while Louis Vuitton casted mature models, such as Stella Tennant, Amber Valletta, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, for its Paris show.
