Shoes, shoes (that hopefully aren’t on the wall), who is the fairest of them all?

Shoe-lovers are an ambitious bunch, so you’d be forgiven for thinking the most popular designer shoes in the UK are eye-wateringly expensive and out of reach for the layman consumer.

However, according to new research, the most popular designer shoes in the country (as identified by how many times they’re shared on Instagram) are actually far more affordable than even your most outlandish footwear fantasies might suggest.

According to a study conducted by Chester Racecourse and Mail Online, the most popular pair of designer shoes on social media are the Michael Kors Fulton flats, which cost just £90.

The study found that the shoes, which come complete with an MK logo on the toe, are shared on Instagram around 28,000 times a week, surpassing the Valentino rockstud stilettos (£650), which garnered fewer than half the amount of posts at 11,000.

The Michael Kors shoes are the cheapest on the list, which is made up of signature styles from leading designers including Saint Laurent, Jimmy Choo and Gucci.

Third place is occupied by the distinctive Manolo Blahnik Hangisi 70 heels (£775), made famous by the first Sex and the City movie when Mr Big proposes to Carrie Bradshaw by guiding her foot into one of the iconic sapphire stilettos.

Meanwhile, Salvatore Ferragamo’s classic court shoes (£400) came in at fourth place, followed by Saint Laurent’s tribute sandals (£600) and Chloe’s Susanna boots (£850).

There are obvious limitations to the research, as it’s nearly impossible to identify how many photos of a specific shoe have been shared on Instagram without corresponding tags.

In a similar analysis, a recent report claimed the Adidas NMDs were the most-Instagrammed trainers on the platform, garnering a staggering 2.4 million tags on the app in total.
