Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The penultimate day of fashion week always has some stand-out shows on offer, and this year, day four had plenty of visual style treats - from a sunny colour palette at Roksanda and ladylike layering at Osman, to vibrant metallic touches at Ashish.

First up was Roksanda, a brand known for its clever use of colour. This season, Roksanda Ilincic, the designer at the helm of the eponymous label, chose spring-like pinks, soft burnt oranges and stripes of yellow/gold to lift a London that, weather-wise at least, is beginning to feel rather chilly. A fluid silhouette seen elsewhere this week was continued with mid-length satin dresses worn over silky trousers decorated with soft feathers and fringing.

Over at Osman, the theme of layering continued with crisp white and pastel shirts tucked under denim jackets. There was also lots of frothy netting, liberated from its traditional use in skirting and instead seen on see-through sleeves or light pastel-hued jackets. With skinny red belts structuring the designer’s otherwise gentle shapes, this was a collection for the modern lady.

After the relaxed, refined feel of the Osman SS17 show, Ashish kicked things up a notch with a set illuminated by a ceiling covered in multiple strings of LED lights that flashed red, blue, pink, green and white. On the catwalk, the drama continued with several models sporting live snakes draped around their shoulders. Inspired by the influence his native India has on the culture of London, the Ashish woman was replete with facial jewellery, elaborately plaited hair and draped in swathes of heavily embellished fabric.
