From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Royal-to-be Meghan Markle has continued to prove she won’t be letting protocol get in the way of her own style.

Stepping out with her future prince, Markle accompanied Prince Harry to their first official formal evening engagement - dressed in a suit.

The former actress was photographed arriving at the Endeavour Fund Awards, a formal event honouring servicemen and women, on Thursday night in black trousers and a tuxedo shirt by designer Alexander McQueen - and she looks fantastic.

And proving a little rain can’t dampen her style, Markle arrived all smiles while taking cover under a grey umbrella.

Although her outfit is unique, Markle’s choice to wear a suit instead of a dress, which would be typical for a formal event, is not surprising - considering the future royal’s recent history of straying from royal protocol in favour of remaining true to herself.

Holding on to her identity, the former Suits star has previously made headlines for appearing in public with a messy bun, mismatched earrings, and a purse rather than a clutch.

But despite the unconventional choices, it is clear Markle is well on her way to becoming a fashion icon - with many of the future royal’s outfits selling out after she’s publicly worn them.

Markle donned the sleek tuxedo-inspired outfit to attend the awards ceremony held in honour of the wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, taking place at Goldsmith’s Hall in London.

The royal-to-be also happened to be one of the award's first presenters - despite the honour traditionally going to members of the royal family.

But, as The Endeavour Fund was originally launched by Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry as part of their charity, The Royal Foundation, it was likely easy to make an exception for Markle.

And we think we may even prefer her tux to her future husband's - who wore a blue suit to the event.
