From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Earlier this year, the duchess’ makeup artist Daniel Martin revealed the measures that he took to ensure that her freckles wouldn’t be concealed underneath foundation on the day of her royal wedding.
Noting that Meghan’s freckles are her “favourite feature”, Martin explained to E! News that he placed small amounts of foundation on specific areas of her face before blending it all together in order to achieve the glowing, bridal look.
While Van Ness usually teaches others about skincare and beauty on Queer Eye as the resident cosmetics aficionado, learning about Meghan’s makeup regime spurred him to take on a similar approach.
“Meghan Markle has inspired me to always use a colour correcting BB cream and not a full foundation because I love my freckles too,” he told Femail.
Van Ness has also expressed his appreciation for the individual styles of Meghan’s sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, and her husband, Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Cambridge has been noted for wearing the same outfit on several occasions in the past, something that Van Ness wholly admires.
“Kate has inspired me to wear the same thing more than once. You know if she can do it, I can do it,” he said.
“It really just means you’re developing your sense of style and you’re a practical modern woman.”
As for Prince Harry, Van Ness has given the duke’s recognisable scruff of facial hair his official seal of approval, saying, “I love Prince Harry’s grooming. I love his little gingerness.”
Earlier this year, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards explained on Instagram about how she'd previously tried to conceal her freckles, saying that she was "always insecure" about them as a child.
Sharing a photo of her freckles on Instagram, she wrote: "Over the last couple of years I've started to embrace them and don't feel I need to hide them anymore."
