On Sunday, the singer arrived at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards in a silver beaded gown by Aidan Mattox.
But rather than the work of a stylist, the outfit choice was actually a “last-minute” purchase made during a trip to the mall, according to the Album of the Year nominee.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, the 34-year-old said: “I had another dress and then my boyfriend and I were getting a belt for him at the mall and I saw this and I loved it, so this is a last-minute dress. But I love it.”
“I tailored it right there,” she added, pointing to her side. “So you know, a little mix and match… We’re making it all work.”
The dress in question, which features beaded fringe detailing, a keyhole cutout neckline and short sleeves, retails for $595 at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Following the singer’s admission, the ET host pointed out that the dress also happened to match Del Rey’s “silver fox” boyfriend, reality TV policeman Sean Larkin.
“Yeah, it’s very cool,” the Summertime Sadness singer responded.
On social media, Del Rey’s gown and its humble origins prompted praise from viewers, who applauded her relatability.
“Lana Del Rey buying her Grammys dress at the mall is a mood,” one person wrote.
Another tweeted: “Say what you want but Lana Del Rey showing up to the Grammys in a dress she bought at the mall is a power move.”
