From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

For the new issue, the magazine has released two covers, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
In one, the 46-year-old wears a sleeveless black crop top with a spliced pair of Versace trousers from the brand’s spring/summer 2021 collection.
The look is accessorised with a black beret and a gold bangle that Moss wears on her upper arm.
In the second cover, the model wears a plunging green chiffon gown with gold hoop earrings.
While there is no interview accompanying the cover shoot, the magazine has released a special Q&A video during which celebrities ask Moss various questions.
Those featured in the video include Marc Jacobs, Rita Ora, and Sir Elton John, who asks what really “p***es” her off, to which Moss replies: “litter bugs, I really hate litter bugs”.
Meanwhile, Jade Jagger asked Moss how she was making her life more sustainable to fight climate change.
“I do all the basic things but also I’ve just bought some land and I think I’m going to build a forest," she replied.
Commenting on the cover, Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue, said: "If 2020 has taught us something of what we can expect from 2021, it is that it will be unpredictable.
“But I can say this much with certainty - there will always be Kate Moss. Almost 28 years since her Vogue debut, Kate’s eternal chic once again finds its way onto our cover this month - a fact I find both thrilling and deeply comforting.”
