From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Grammy-nominated singer and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is the latest pop diva to plan a fragrance launch this fall. Her affordable perfume line, Because of You, will be sold exclusively by US apparel retailer Dots from October through November 5, followed by a wider US launch.

Apra International, which introduces up-and-coming celebrity fragrances, manufactured Sparks' signature scent. The fruity floral fragrance blends clementine, white imperial currant and orange blossom top notes with orchid, coral and peony mid-notes, along with underlying sheer musks, vanilla, amber and woodsy base notes. The medley is girly and playful - a fitting product for the 20-year-old singer's young fan base.

Because of You will sell for $14.95 for 2.5 oz. of eau de parfum. Dots, which has more than 400 stores, will offer the fragrance at an introductory price of $9.50 through October. Domestic US orders can be placed online now at Dots.

The fragrance has this price point because Sparks refuses to spend much on her own favorite perfumes. She told Women's Wear Daily, "When I was starting this project, I really wanted it to be affordable. I looked at some other celebrity fragrances, and they were like $80. Even now, I look at a fragrance that's $80, and I can't bring myself to spend that much. In this economy especially, my fans deserve a high-quality, reasonably priced scent."

Sparks is the latest pop star to roll out a signature scent, following in the footsteps of Hilary Duff, Beyoncé and Fergie. This fall, another chanteuse-turned-perfumer is preparing to debut her own line of perfume.

Katy Perry, an American singer best-known for her flirty hit "I Kissed a Girl" and her 1950s pin-up girl wardrobe and makeup, is releasing Purr by Katy Perry at Nordstrom stores across the US this November. The retailer also provides international shipping (in preferred shopping currency) to the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, most of Western Europe, Hong Kong, Phillipines, Taiwan and Thailand, among others. Visit the website for a complete list.

The unique scent contains hints of peach nectar, apple and green bamboo and comes in a cat-shaped bottle with jeweled eyes.
Next spring, you'll even get a whiff of Lady Gaga's signature scent. The singer shocked many when she announced she'll be developing her own line of perfumes (remember, this is the same woman who wore meat to the MTV Music Awards). The unnamed fragrance is being developed by mass-market perfume purveyor Coty, the brainchild behind top-selling celebrity fragrances including Jennifer Lopez's Glow and Beyoncé's Heat.
