From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lopez’s green silk chiffon jungle-patterned dress, which she wore to the 42nd annual Grammies, is widely regarded as one of the most iconic ever created by Versace, alongside the black safety pin dress worn by Elizabeth Hurley in 1994.
Almost two decades after the singer wowed the world on the red carpet in it, Versace has collaborated with American retailer Concepts to create a shoe that pays homage to the striking green gown.
The Concepts x Versace chain reaction shoe in green emerald is available on the Concepts website.
It doesn’t come cheap, retailing for men and women at a hefty $1,075 (£859).
The Versace logo of the head of Medusa is embossed on the back of the heel, while the insole features the Versace x Concepts branding symbol.
Before Lopez’s appearance at the 2000 Grammies, the jungle-patterned chiffon Versace dress was worn by model and actor Amber Valletta on the catwalk for the luxury fashion label’s spring/summer collection.
The dress was also worn by Spice Girls band member Geri Halliwell a month before Lopez, at the NRJ Music Awards in January 2000.
In January 2015, Eric Schmidt, the former Google CEO, stated that the interest that spiked on the internet by Lopez’s Versace gown was part of the inspiration behind the development of Google Image Search.
In March, Hurley recreated the Versace safety pin dress that she wore the the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral 25 years ago.
For the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the model and actor wore an updated version of the dress, created especially for her by Donatella Versace.
