From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 15-piece collection features a wide range of spring essentials including button-through skirts, zip-front boiler suits and Western-inspired frill-detail shirts, as well as shoes, bags and accessories.
Speaking about the edit, the This Morning presenter said: “This edit has been really fun to pull together.
“I have always loved the simplicity of a denim dress and I live in high-waisted skinny jeans at the weekend,” she continued.
The edit is currently available in 70 selected stores nationwide and online.
But, if the 38-year-old’s previous edits with the British high street brand are anything to go by, you may want to be quick as they are known to sell out in hours.
Willoughby added: “I am a huge fan of wearing different denim pieces together – effortless but with a cooler edge. If top-to-toe denim isn’t for you, add a crisp white tee and simple ankle boots, for a classic look that will see you through season after season.”
Breton tops from the edit come in at just £8.50, while its most expensive piece is a leather bag a £79.
In October, the broadcaster launched her second collection – the winter edit – for the brand, which included a £55 tiger-print dress that proved a big hit with customers.
M&S announced that Willoughby had joined the retailer as its latest brand ambassador in September 2018.
Her first edit featured 20 pieces from the M&S autumn collection called “Holly’s must-haves”.
In the first image released ahead of the campaign, the star wore a burgundy tartan mini skirt, a slogan T-shirt and a bright pink coat that was reminiscent of the brand’s sellout duster coat from autumn 2013.
