Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

All Hallow’s Eve is very nearly upon us but if you’ve been invited to a bloodcurdling bash chances are it’s happening this weekend.

Alas, time is quickly running out to find the perfect costume and with so many all-out options picking the right one can seem like a bit of a gory minefield.

Fear not though because whether you’ve left it too late or you just don’t dig coating yourself in fake blood, we have the perfect stylish solution.

There are plenty of ways to securing a scarily glam look with very little fuss and what’s more they can be put together in a matter of minutes.

If you’re into macabre dressing but want to get the balance between ghoulish and girly just right why not tap into this season’s goth-glam look. Salvage an old party outfit or opt for something new but whatever you do make sure it’s black and vaulting in lace.

Decorative tights, leather accents and logo tops are also a great way to wear something festive without looking like you’ve tried too hard.

Similarly, sometimes all you need is to add a spooky accessory; think ghoulish themed jewellery, hair accessories, ornate face masks and the ubiquitous choker.

The final nail in the coffin is to get seriously morbid with your makeup. This doesn’t mean you have to go all-out and requires very little skill; simply opt for a dark foreboding lip, spiky lashes or devilishly long talons. Hell, why not do all three.
