From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Met Gala is an unabashedly extravagant affair, with some of the world's most famous faces gracing the pink carpet at this year's event in an array of flamboyant "Camp" ensembles for the first Monday in May.
Among the lineup of stars was Paltrow, who wore a lemon-yellow chiffon gown by French fashion house Chloé.
While it can be assumed that the majority of celebrities in attendance at the annual fashion gala spent hours adding the final touches to their glamorous looks, the Avengers: Endgame star began her preparations the night before.
In a new blog post shared on the blog of her lifestyle brand Goop, Paltrow outlines how at 10.30pm on Sunday night she soaked in a bath using "'The Martini' Emotional Detox Bath Soak" available on her website for $35 (£27), before using a glycolic overnight glow peel worth $125 (£98).
“I’d had a crazy day of meetings and flights and dinner, so I needed this bath. I take a bath every night, but I especially love ‘The Martini’ when I’ve got a big event the next day. It’s got five kinds of salt in it, amazing essential oils. It’s just epic," the Oscar-winning actor writes.
The next morning, Paltrow started her day by drinking a glass of "GoopGlow", a product described as a "morning skin superpower".
"This is an every-morning ritual but even more important when I want to look my best," the actor says of the $60 (£47) product.
"It's an antioxidant superpowder that wakes up your skin and makes a serious difference in it all day and long-term."
Throughout the day leading up to the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, Paltrow used products including a "luminous melting cleanser", worth $90 (£71), an "active botanical serum" worth $185 (£145) and an active treatment essence worth $225 (£177).
Her makeup look, which her makeup artist began applying at 1pm, included a combination of products including a khol eyeliner, liquid liner and eyeshadow to create a smokey eye.
Lastly, just before leaving for the event, Paltrow took a shot of liquid courage. "Gotta have some whiskey before the Met," she writes.
This week, it was announced that Goop will be holding its first wellness summit in the UK at the end of June.
Tickets for the two-day event cost £1,000, while the more exclusive weekend package – which includes a VIP workout session with Tracy Anderson and a two-night hotel stay at the Kimpton Fitzroy hotel – is priced at £4,500.
The company has previously been criticised for making "misleading and potentially dangerous claims" about "wellness products".
One of the products in question was a selection of "health-giving" stones, costing £76 each.
