From the Double G Belt, ‘Fake’ T-shirt and Soho Disco Bag, Gucci has been steadily dominating the street style world to become one of the hottest fashion labels around.

But the high-end brand’s latest product release is raising a few eyebrows – a rubber tote bag that looks eerily similar to a mop bucket.

Sold for £675 on the Gucci website, the Logo Top Handle Tote comes in four different colours and is said to be inspired by “the shape of vintage beach bags.”

It also features the iconic Gucci logo on the side and is imprinted with a code underneath that “holds special meaning to the House.”

The bucket-style bag first made an appearance at Gucci’s spring summer 2018 runway show in Milan but has since become available to buy online.

Promoting the launch on its Instagram page, Gucci shared an image of the rubber tote online.

However, the post quickly sparked a succession of negative comments from fashion fans who compared it to everything from a mop bucket and laundry basket to a grocery bag.

“Finally, a laundry basket that suits Gucci clothes,” one person wrote.

Another added: “The horror, looks like a biodegradable grocery bag.”

“Looks like a watering can for the garden”, someone else commented.

This isn’t the first time a fashion brand has been scrutinised for selling products that look just like household items though.

Last year, French luxury fashion house Balenciaga released a £1,670 bag that looked remarkably similar to the blue ones Ikea sell for pennies.

While Celine has also been criticised for selling a £425 clear plastic bag that looks just like the ones customers are handed out at the grocery store.
