From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Monday, the British fashion designer revealed the news, describing the Canadian singer as the “perfect embodiment” of the label’s ethos.
“She is passionate and outspoken protecting the planet, and a true trailblazer for pushing creative boundaries and inspiring women to unlock their potential in all aspects of their lives,” McCartney said of the “Oblivion” singer.
This isn’t the first time McCartney and Grimes have teamed up together in the name of fashion.
In 2016, the singer joined Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon and actor Amanda Stenberg in a video for McCartney’s Pop perfume video campaign.
At the time, McCartney described the Vancouver-born performer as “refreshing”, telling ELLE UK: “Her style is bold, courageous and honest. She doesn't compromise herself for anyone.
“There aren't many people like that. Grimes is a one-off.”
The 31-year-old regularly speaks out about climate change. Earlier this year, the singer announced that her fifth album, Miss_Anthropocene, would be a concept record about “the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change”.
McCartney’s choice of Grimes comes as part of the designer’s ongoing effort to reduce the environmental impact of fashion.
The up-coming collection features several eco-friendly cutting-edge fabrics including recycled polyester and Econyl yarn.
The collection's pieces, which includes a long-sleeved knitted top, include graphic prints and bold mesh structures.
“Performance and style are at the heart of every piece adidas by Stella McCartney creates, but we believe that this shouldn’t come at a cost to the planet,” says McCartney of the designs.
“Our focus for this collection was to incorporate fabrics that help us get one step closer to our future goal of high-performing, sustainable performance wear.”
The news comes days after the designer debuted the world’s first full recyclable hoodie.
The "Infinite Hoodie" is composed of 60 per cent NuCycl™ fibre, a material made using the threads from old garments, and 40 per cent organic cotton that has been diverted from landfills.
Made in partnership with textile innovations company Evrnu, the hoodie is designed to be reused and remade in the future.
Last month, Taylor Swift announced she was collaborating with McCartney on a new collection.
“She’s been a friend for a really long time, and also just a woman I respect so much,” Swift said of McCartney during an Instagram Live.
Select pieces from the adidas by Stella McCartney autumn/winter 2019 collection will be available online from Monday 15 July on adidas.com and stellamccartney.com.
