From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Entitled “Fendi Caffe”, the pop-up is located on the fifth floor of iconic department store Harrods and will be open for visitors throughout July and August.
The cafe will feature an array of Italian delicacies that have been given a Fendi makeover, including everything from bag-shaped biscuits to coffee and cake that come emblazoned with the brand’s iconic double F logo.
The pop-up has been designed in collaboration with visual artist Joshua Vides, who has transformed the space to create a monochrome dining experience inspired by the luxury fashion house.
An eatery like no other, the interior decor is an Instagrammer’s dream, featuring Fendi branded walls, tables, menus, plates and crockery.
While the pop-up offers a specially curated menu, it is also home to the "Fendi Peekaboo Bar”, where shoppers can fully customise their own Mini Peekaboo bag.
Here, customers can mix and match up to three elements of the popular style to create their own unique carryall.
More than 20 different options are available for the body of the bag, with 25 variations of handle and a further seven for the strap.
In addition, attendees will be able to see a sequin re-edition of Silvia Venturini Fendi’s 1997 Baguette bag while two other pop-ups – the Men’s Piazza and Shoe Heaven – will showcase men’s autumn/winter 2019 accessories and a series of women’s footwear.
Opening a bespoke cafe appears to have become all the rage among fashion designers of late.
In March, Simon Porte Jacquemus opened a new Parisian restaurant called Café Citron in the new Champs-Élysées location of iconic department store Galeries Lafayette.
The space was filled with simple wooden tables and chairs, lemon trees and oversized terracotta pots, while lemon-shaped puddings and Mediterranean dishes were on the menu.
Most recently, Prada opened its bakery, Marchesi 1824, in Mayfair, London.
In April, the bakery opened its doors on Mount Street, opposite The Conaught Hotel to offer customers its world famous classic Milanese panettone, dragées, gianduja chococolates, as well as thick Italian hot chocolate.
The Fendi Caffe runs from 1 July-31 August, the Peekaboo bar runs from 1 July-28 July.
