Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

I tend to go a bit barmy for blossom at this time of year. Its sudden nature – as bare branches seemingly erupt in bud overnight – is synonymous with waving goodbye to wintry doom and gloom.

Cherry is a favourite: I haven't made it to Japan for the sakura season yet, but there's plenty of the pink stuff in my neighbourhood for now. Sadly, it's only a fleeting pleasure; a brisk wind is all it takes to create a snowstorm of petal confetti which will inevitably become brown mulch. But while it lasts, it's a reason to be cheerful.

Green lemon & orange blossom body wash

£5.50, Sanctuary Spa, boots.com

Lighter, brighter mornings are made even easier with a good squeeze of this – a nylon puff will help burst the moisture beads suspended in the gel.

Cherry blossom bath soap

£4, L'Occitane, uk.loccitane.com

Provence is known for its cherries and its blossom is a fitting ingredient here. This pretty, flower-shaped soap foams gently with a fresh, floral fragrance.

Plum blossom cologne

£86, jomalone.co.uk

One of three re-issued blossom-based scents from Jo Malone, which I'm thrilled about. A personal favourite, it's warm, yet light and clean – the perfect fragrance to see you in to summer.

Mashi blossom & Pink Grapefruit skin softening body lotion

£24, kiehls.co.uk

The skincare experts have recreated the elusive scent of Japanese pear blossom – too delicate to extract – and blended it with pink grapefruit and a nourishing blend of botanical oils.

Shinjuku Bloom body scrub

£7, & Other Stories, stories.com

One of my favourite exfoliating formulations, this cheap-and-cheerful sugar scrub packs a punch of cheerful cherry and orange blossoms, vanilla and sandalwood.
