Style shrinks: Is it a dress or a skirt gone mad? Rosamund Pike is too smiley to care...
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Rebecca Gonsalves: You know what makes lipstick look great? Smiling. Such a natural beam is a rare sight on the red carpet. More of this in 2015, please.
Mike Higgins: Quite right. No point wearing a one-person tent on a big night out if you're going to look miserable about it.
The hair
Rebecca: Slicked back a little severely for my tastes – brushing the Elnett hairspray out a bit to create a less crispy finish would have been a more modern approach.
Mike: Next time I'm at the barber's, I'm going to take the tonsorial plunge and ask for a crispy finish.
The dress
Rebecca: Dammit! Why didn't I think of using the discarded mountain of Christmas wrapping to create a snazzy smock capacious enough to hide my festive indulgence?
Mike: It's a skirt with ideas above its station. Not really a look so much as a regime change.
The shoes
Rebecca: Let's hope she hasn't her 'Gone Girl' character's resourcefulness – or homicidal tendencies – as these sandals could literally be killer heels.
Mike: Peerless toes – behind feet such as these is a pedicurist of rare majesty.
