Spring make-up 2015: From bold and beautiful to barely-there neutral, a look for every occasion

A crimson kiss isn’t exactly ground-breaking in beauty terms, but there has been a noticeable absence of ruby pouts on runways of late. Not so for spring, with everyone from Dolce & Gabbana to Topshop Unique showing their own interpretation of the look.

At the Seville-inspired show of the former, the shade hovered around the berry end of the red spectrum, while at Topshop a soft ombre effect was created with the application of two colours.

If that all sounds a bit “done” or red isn’t your colour, fear not – there’s also a decidedly more understated no-makeup look, as seen on fresh-faced models at Marc Jacobs.

Nails are often the canvas of choice for those wary of going head-to-toe in new-season trends. But this spring the catwalk has dictated a barely-there approach to polish.

At Versace and Victoria Beckham, a slick of sheer colour was applied to give a glossy sheen – ideal for hiding chips. At Peter Som, a soft grey gave a more solid look to a neutral trend, but spring brights weren’t relegated completely, with Barbie pink at Moschino and colour pop shades at Burberry Prorsum.

The spirit of the Seventies was alive and well at Fashion Week this season, but if you aren’t quite ready to pull on some flares and stomp about in platforms, a slight retro twist to hair can be an easy fix.

At Valentino’s show, Guido Palau created soft, beachy waves using a combination of a curling iron and his hands for a natural-looking texture. At Pucci, the look was more obviously “done”, with Studio 54-inspired waves.

Accessories in the hair may sound unnervingly similar to something worn at school discos but subtle additions, such as the gold seashells at Valentino or the simple barette at Celine, are a simple fix to transform any bad hair day.
