Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

You can't beat a good collaboration, particularly when both sides are close to a fashion follower's heart.

I'm thinking about the now-hard-to-find Lanvin collection for Acne, for example, or indeed Comme des Garçons and Speedo, Converse, Paco Rabanne... The list of luminary names goes on.

And so, this week I bring you fashion's most recent link up, between the designer Christopher Kane and the LA-based purveyor of fine denim, J Brand.

The radiant colouring of the majority of this collection is perhaps best left to those with equally radiant souls. Not mine then. But the fashion desk was collectively sighing at the prettiness of both the shade and texture of these pieces which include not only hotpants but also cycling shorts, skinnies, flares, denim jackets... All have either frayed or over-stitched edges.

And what of the cut? The waistline here is somewhat higher than classic J Brand, which is a relief as muffin-tops are a challenge at all times but when spilling over the edge of some lime-green denim leggings, say, are inadmissible.

For all of those who would like to buy into this offering without indulging in the full-on colour pop, meanwhile, black jeans, dark indigo and faded jeans fit the bill. Just like Kane's knitwear, these allow those who prefer not to wear their label on their sleeve – or their legs – an entry point to one of the brightest talents on the horizon. And for a snip of the price of the main line.

Christopher Kane for J Brand, available at net-a-porter.com, Harvey Nichols, Liberty and Harrods, priced from £205
