From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

An exclusive clip showing a couture clown outfit by London designer Gareth Pugh teases the upcoming Halloween-themed exhibition curated by Britain’s legendary fashion photographer and ShowStudio founder, Nick Knight.
'A Beautiful Darkness' is the first showcase of Veuve Clicquot Widow Series, an annual fashion event which is set to produce a unique Halloween experience with a different creative every year, to pay tribute to the pioneering spirit of eponymous widow (or "veuve" in French) Madame Clicquot.
“I hope ‘A Beautiful Darkness’ will be a truly unique cultural event that will offer attendees a new way of seeing fashion and art as well as proposing a beautiful new dark aesthetic to celebrate Halloween,” Knight says.
Taking in the worlds of fashion, film, myth and even tattoo art - all inspired, of course, by Halloween - the exhibition features newly-commisioned work of creative masterminds. One room is dedicated to the white witch and early forms of feminism curated by Karl Lagerfeld's right-hand woman, Lady Amanda Harlech. Another space displays some of New York’s superstar tattoo artist Scott Campbell’s most intricate artworks.
Pugh created six clown outfits (because who isn't scared of clowns), and Knight, who most recently directed Tom Ford’s spring/summer 2016 fashion video, also created one of the five fashion horror films that will be on show.
“It is an honour to have been chosen to front the first ever Veuve Clicquot Widow Series. I feel that both Veuve Clicquot and I are aligned in the wish to champion new ways of displaying fashion, and particularly fashion film,” Knight adds.
“I founded SHOWstudio to be the home of fashion film and it’s exciting to see how many talented creatives are embracing it, a selection of whom will contribute to this very special occasion.”
The free exhibition is open for one day only on October 29 and will also feature a series of Veuve Clicquot tastings. More info on veuveclicquotwidowseries.co.uk and tickets are available on Eventbrite.
