Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Actually, it's leopard – that most classic of animal prints.
Is there anything classic about animal prints?
Certainly. A good leopard-print accessory – a bag or a shoe, for example – never goes out of fashion. It can work just fine on clothes, too – just proceed with caution when it comes to great swathes of the stuff.
What kind of outfit screams for a finishing touch of leopard print, then?
That's the beauty of an animal print – it doesn't really "go" with anything, which means it also kinda goes with everything. Steer clear of stuff that's too va-va-voom – ie tight and stretchy. The main point should be to keep the style that your leopard print is adorning nice and contemporary – this Elena Ghisellini pony-hair version is as sleek as, well, a leopard (pictured above, £725, my-wardrobe.com). For more of an impulse-purchase price tag and a sportier style, try Asos, which has leopard backpacks from £25.
Are people going to make a Theresa May-style fuss of my feet if I wear leopard shoes?
If you're asking whether the connotations of leopard print will always be rather racy, the answer is yes. Pretend you don't know that. Adding a bit of animal in too knowing a wink to your raunchier alter ego is a little cringey.
