Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

What are you wearing right now?

Because I live in the country, it isn't that easy to buy clothes anymore, so I get them made up instead. Right now, I'm wearing a black crepe dress from my autumn/winter 2010 range, with lace tights and some great lace-up high heels by Vivienne Westwood.

Who's your style icon?

Louise Brooks.

What can't you live without?

My vintage tea dresses.

Describe the best outfit you have ever worn.

I recently borrowed a beautiful black lace and sequinned dress from Chanel; I felt amazing in it.

What's in your wardrobe?

A lot of vintage dresses, cashmere cardigans and coloured tights. I haven't changed my look for years!

What is in your make-up bag?

Chanel mascara, Shu Uemura lipsticks, MAC black eyeliner, Chanel pale foundation, Annick Goutal perfume, Jo Malone hand cream and some butter LONDON green nail varnish.

If you could live in any decade, style-wise which would it be?

I'd have to say the Twenties. I love everything about that decade – the wonderful clothes, make-up, hair, the luxurious luggage, all that decadence really.

How often do you look in the mirror?

As little as possible.

What's your secret style tip?

Find a look that suits you and then work it. Don't follow trends – be an individual.
