Dress Code: Paloma Faith, Singer
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. What are you wearing right now?
A yellow catsuit and a Carmen Miranda-style fruit hat. I'm on tour and am about to go on stage. It was made by my fab friend Carly.
Who's your style icon?
I have a few: Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page.
What can't you live without?
Food and water.
Describe the best outfit you have ever worn.
Anything by Ashish. With a Piers Atkinson cherry hat. They make me feel like I'm in a fairy tale, those boys.
What's in your wardrobe?
Lots of vintage clothes and costumes. I've got mainly bright colours, leopard prints and loads of wedge heels.
What is in your make-up bag?
Mainly MAC products with the Body Shop Moisture Rich Foundation, and their Aloe range of face creams and cleansers, because I have sensitive skin. My fave MAC lipsticks are Ruby Woo, Lady Danger and Diva.
What's in your handbag?
My wallet, a pair of Ray-Bans, keys, oyster card, MAC pressed powder and a Ruby Woo lipstick.
If you could live in any decade, style-wise which would it be?
The Forties. I think that era probably suits my body shape the best, with all those really nipped-in waists and big bums.
How often do you look in the mirror?
Every morning to do my eyeliner and lip liner. I try not to look at my whole reflection. I think it's bad for you to scrutinise yourself too much.
Any fashion confessions you want to share with us?
I don't believe in mistakes. I think people take fashion too seriously. So what if you look a bit silly one day? At least you had the guts to do it. I think people should lighten up about fashion – after all, it's supposed to be fun!
What's your secret style tip?
A good sense of humour.
