Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. What are you wearing right now?
Some black leather shoes with brass toe caps by Miu Miu, funky frog Topman socks, black tailored trousers from Acne, a vintage Russian sailor’s top with a metallic polka-dot jacket by Victor and Rolf, and a classic Jaeger handbag.
Who’s your style icon?
Anjelica Huston.
What can’t you live without?
I absolutely need a regular fix of Kate Halfpenny necklaces. They come with wasps and frogs and other funny little creatures attached.
Describe the best outfit you have ever worn.
A Jean Paul Gaultier couture full-length gown with fishtail and built-in cravat, to the 2009 MET ball.
What’s in your wardrobe?
An eclectic mix of vintage and high street. I am also prone to Japanese tailoring such as Comme des Garçons, as well as Helmut Lang and Dries Van Noten.
What’s in your make-up bag?
Anything by BECCA make-up, No 1 Chanel foundation, single false eyelashes by Shu Uemura, and lippy and mascara by Rimmel.
If you could live in any decade, style-wise which would it be?
The Twenties. It was a beautifully elegant period for women. Think Great Gatsby.
How often do you look in the mirror?
Daily...It’s an occupational hazard as I take on different personae.I never know who or what I’m going to be when I rock up for work!
Any fashion confessions you want to share with us?
I once went out wearing food dye in my hair, Doc Martens, stripey tights and a tie-dye gypsy skirt. It was the early Nineties andit took hours to look that bad.
