From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

'The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better' by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett is a must-read for anyone with a social conscience, about the damaging effect of inequality in rich countries.
Television
The reason I have a TV is to watch England play cricket, and Blackburn Rovers play football. I loved 'Top Dogs: Adventures In War, Sea And Ice' on BBC2, in which three incredible men, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, John Simpson and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, engaged in courageous expeditions. This is reality TV as it should be – no empty-headed celebrity wannabes here.
Films
One of the indulgences of our house is a handy home cinema. Sky Movies Indie is great; I tend to video 10 films a week. I could watch 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' until the cows come home.
Music
Soul singer Nicole Willis is brilliant; she makes Duffy and Adele look anodyne. Much music today lacks integrity.
