From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Unless you are a bride, you'll be forgiven for thinking that most wedding dresses look more-or-less the same.
From Kate Middleton inspired lace to the ever-popular strapless ballgown shapes - it's rare to see anything particularly new or innovative on a wedding day.
This may be set to change however, as last week bridal designers presented their spring/summer 2016 collections in New York, and amongst the usual sea of similar designs there were a few alternative trends.
Think bridal tuxedos, monochrome shades, mini-hemlines and even the odd bit of floral prints.
Here is our roundup of the more unusual bridal trends:
Short dresses are becoming more and more popular with brides, Peter Copping included several in his debut bridal collection for Oscar de la Renta.
Similarly, white is no longer the default shade for brides-to-be with Claire Pettibone showing a number of black designs, Jenny Packham including blush coloured styles and even a blue floral dress at Naeem Khan.
