From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The 40-year-old supermodel, who is currently expecting her second child with partner Steve Gibson, took part in Schiaparelli’s spring/summer 2019 couture show in Paris yesterday.
Taking to Instagram, O’Connor posted a number of photos of her wearing an enormous pink tulle dress and revealed that her appearance on the runway would be her last before she gives birth.
“One last hurrah at the Paris Opera house before the wee scamp arrives,” she wrote.
Walking alongside Victoria Secret model Taylor Hill and actor Farida Khelfa, O’Connor wore a tiered pink gown that was so vast it completely swamped her pregnancy bump.
In fact, it was so big that it also concealed the fact she was wearing a comfortable pair of trainers, as she revealed in a separate Instagram post.
“I am wearing an expression of calm…I am also wearing @schiaparelli couture with converse boots. Dreams can come true!!” she confessed.
O'Connor kept the news of her pregnancy private until November, when she revealed her baby bump at a BAFTA party.
The model chose to do the same during her pregnancy in 2014, when she gave fans a first glimpse of her baby bump on the red carpet.
Speaking of the news at the time, she told Hello!: “Nobody knew. This is my first outing. It was a well kept secret. Thank God for all those winter coats. I just thought I'd come out with a bang.”
This isn’t the first time a pregnant model has taken to the catwalk.
In September 2018, a number of designers chose to include heavily pregnant women in their shows, including Lily Aldrige, who walked for Brandon Maxwell, and Slick Woods, who appeared in Rihanna's Savage x Fenty lingerie show.
It later transpired that Woods was actually in the early stages of labour during the runway show and gave birth to her son just 14 hours later.
Alongside a photo of her modelling the lingerie line, she wrote: “A lewk, 14 hours of labour, and a king is born.
“This is the face of a WOMAN IN LABOUR, we hold s**t down most of us don’t even know how much we’re going through."
