Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Just quite where our love affair with shoes began no one knows but there’s no doubt on-screen icons have taught us the importance of good footwear over the years.
From Dorothy’s ruby red slippers to Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic blue Manolos and their dazzling crystal-buckle, blinding embellishments have invariably become the ultimate way to elevate your outfit.
And with party season just around the corner notice-me shoes have never felt more appropriate.
If it isn’t sparkly, then don’t bother buying it.
In recent years, the high-fashion world has shunned crystal-covered clogs in favour of clinical and vaguely orthopaedic looking alternatives. But lately, designers have irrevocably ditched minimalism in favour of a “more is more” approach.
This season’s sparklers came in a variety of styles with Miu Miu and Rochas both opting for pointed pumps adorned with crystallised brooches and rhinestone encrusted ankle straps.
Elsewhere though – we’re looking at you, Mary Katrantzou and Isabel Marant – glitter meant the feet did all the talking with spangled two-tone platforms and twinkling courts paired with equally sparkly socks.
All about having fun, it’s a trend that many of our favourite high street retailers have jumped on board with too, and just in time for Christmas party season.
For the very best of embellished shoes of all kinds we suggest heading to Zara or River Island where you’ll find everything from bejewelled booties to studded satin slides.
With a diary chock-full of festive dress-up dates, there really is no better time to invest in a pair of shoes that will guarantee to light up the night.
