From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

On Friday 15 March, those watching Comic Relief’s annual Red Nose Day show were treated to a segment based around the 1994 romantic comedy film.
Titled One Red Nose Day and a Wedding, the skit saw James, playing the daughter of Charles (Hugh Grant) and Carrie (Andie MacDowell), tie the knot with Alicia Vikander, who starred as the daughter of Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas).
The pair both looked elegant as they exchanged their vows in front of Father Gerald (Rowan Atkinson), James in a white, feathered dress and Vikander in chic suit ensemble.
Those wishing to emulate James’ bridal look can now do so, by purchasing the exact dress she wore on eBay.
On Friday, the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again actor revealed on Instagram that the wedding gown she wore for the short film, created by Hong Kong-born designer Ryan Lo, has gone on sale.
“This is your chance to win a showstopping designer wedding dress by @ryanlostudio and iconic piece of TV memorabilia,” James wrote in the caption.
“And with it, Richard Curtis will give you one page of his original script of Four Weddings and a Funeral - authenticated and signed by him.”
Having started the bidding at 99p, the gown is currently being sought after for £500.
With more than two days left for the auction, this price is likely to increase.
Whatever the dress eventually sells for, 100 per cent of the proceeds will go towards organisations benefited by Comic Relief.
James’ wedding dress isn’t the only outfit from the Four Weddings and a Funeral skit on sale for charity.
Fans of the classic Richard Curtis film can also buy the Comme des Garçons dress worn by Thomas, the fuchsia dress worn by MacDowell and the grey suit worn by Grant, among several other costumes.
Bidding for all the available outfits will end on Tuesday 26 March at 9.20am, and will be delivered to the buyers with free postage.
