From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Have you ever wondered how you could glam up the tiresome task of washing the dishes?

Probably not. However, that hasn’t stopped one designer brand from manufacturing a pair of seemingly standard rubber gloves that will cost you an arm and a leg to purchase.

Calvin Klein has released a pair of pink rubber gloves as part of its spring and summer collection, which can be bought for the extortionate price of £385.

You may assume that these rubber gloves have some sort of extraordinary properties that can justify its hefty price.

However, the only information provided on the Ssense website is that the gloves have been made using 100 per cent synthetic rubber, that they’re “rose” pink in colour and that the Calvin Klein logo has been printed on the cuff alongside some additional text.

The gloves were debuted on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week on September 7 last year.

The model was also wearing a yellow rubber t-shirt and skirt designed by Calvin Klein, with both items of clothing costing £2,525 each.

Calvin Klein’s most recent spring collection was inspired by an amalgamation of American horror with the “American dream”, as chief creative officer Raf Simons explained.

“They are both a part of life,” he said. “This collection is a celebration of that: a celebration of American life.”

The designer brand’s rubber gloves aren’t the only fashion faux pas to have stirred the masses recently.

A few days ago, Kanye West shared a photo on Twitter of blue, clunky shoes that he described as “Yeezy slides.”

People were quick to mock the apparent latest addition to West’s Yeezy fashion collection, with some questioning whether it was a joke.

“It takes a lot to out-ugly Crocs but I think you have pulled it off!” one person wrote.

Other compared the shoes to the footwear typically worn in hospitals.
