Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Burberry has already revamped its archive with a fall/winter 2018 partnership with Gosha Rubchinskiy and now the British heritage brand is releasing another nostalgia-inducing offering with Opening Ceremony.
Working together for the first time, the two brands have linked for an exclusive 10-piece capsule collection inspired by Christopher Bailey’s final collection for the fashion house.
For Burberry’s February 2018 show, Bailey gave the brand’s iconic check a bright makeover by reimagining the print to incorporate the rainbow flag – an emblem that has become an international symbol of Pride and diversity.
“My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to – and in support of – some of the best and brightest organisations supporting LGBT+ youth around the world,” Bailey previously said.
“There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength, and our creativity.”
Following in the former creative officer’s footsteps, Opening Ceremony’s capsule combines these trademark kaleidoscopic colours with its own cool aesthetic and streetwear staples to create a collection of jersey sweats and T-shirts inspired by Burberry’s 1995 and 1996 winter collections.
Meanwhile, rainbow graphics and 1990s era logos pay tribute to European landmarks like the London Bridge and Arc de Triomphe.
To promote the collection, Opening Ceremony worked with fashion photographer Salvatore Caputo who travelled to Kiev, Ukraine.
Here, Caputo shot young Ukrainian partygoers wearing pieces from the exclusive capsule as they danced the night away and explored the city’s growing underground rave community.
The collection can be purchased online and at Opening Ceremony stores in New York and Los Angeles, with prices ranging from $240 (£185) to $650.
