Update your beauty look for spring with a blusher
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Women don't always find a place for blusher in their make-up bags for fear of looking overdone. But when used properly, it’s actually a fool-proof way to add warmth to dull, wintery skin.
So, until the sun visits more regularly, why not fake a fresh glow with the help of a brightening blusher?
Here's how to choose the correct one for your complexion.
No longer confined to powders alone – which are still totally adequate, might we add – there are a whole host of creams, sticks, gels and even liquids that can provide the perfect texture and application you're looking for.
As for which shade to select, it’s really a matter of preference but, as a rule, there are certain hues which compliment different complexions.
Those with fair skin will benefit from shades like pale pink, peach and plum for added warmth. Similarly, creamy, lightweight formulas stop the blush from overwhelming the skin.
For medium and olive skin tones, apricots, rose and soft berry shades work best, and for something a little edgier, deeper shades of mauve can give your complexion extra depth.
Likewise, anyone with dark skin will find deep raisin shades and terracotta super flattering – but it’s important to make sure you don’t go too cool as this can sometimes look ashy.
Bright shades like orange are also seriously trendy, so don’t be afraid to give them a go. Just be sure to apply with a light hand and keep the rest of your makeup pared back.
