From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The event, which was hosted by singer Kelly Clarkson for the second year, saw stars come together to celebrate the music industry’s most lauded and creative talent.
The fun vibe of the night inspires guests to ditch tradition and get creative with their looks every year and 2019 was no different with stars donning everything from snake-print suits to tiered tulle dresses and even cowboy boots.
Among the best dressed were actor Priyanka Chopra who sported a white sequinned dress by Zuhair Murad, rapper Cardi B in a show-stopping canary yellow two-piece, and actor Olivia Wilde who opted for head-to-toe gold.
While the Billboard Music Awards is undoubtedly a great opportunity for stars to show off their sartorial prowess, the event was also filled with a number of performances and of course plenty of award winners.
Taylor Swift opened this year’s awards with the very first live performance of her new single “Me!” alongside Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie, while Madonna and Colombian singer Maluma performed their new collaborative single “Medellin” with the help of a couple Madonna holograms.
One of the biggest winners of the night was Drake who made history by becoming the the most-awarded artist in Billboard Music Awards history, nabbing 12 awards to bring his all-time total up to 27.
