From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Deepening your lip shade in the cooler months is about as ground-breaking as florals in spring but despite a volley of new beauty trends bidding to break through, none can out-do this season’s vampy vibes.

From deep berry to aubergine, dark and dramatic hues swarmed the runway like never before as a new iteration of goth-glam macquillage set the beauty tone. And, while the likes of Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood opted for matte, jet-black pigment it was the berry-like mouths that really did the talking.

At Rodarte, models wore a no-shine shade of merlot to compliment a full, bold brow while at Gareth Pugh, a combination of burgundy, black, crimson and orange came courtesy of make-up maestro Pat McGrath.

A blackberry lip is a undeniably a statement, and a strong one at that, but some designers dared to take it one step further. For Dior and Louis Vuitton, models’ pouts were painted with lacquered black cherry lips for a high definition mirror shine.

While this trend falls quite fittingly with imminent All Hallows’ Eve, don’t confine your dark side to one night only. The key thing here is to keep the rest of your look simple, so make sure your cheeks and eyes are paired back so your look revolves around a dramatic, blackberry lip. It’s also vital that your lips are in great shape so keep them moisturised.
