The Gay Weekend at Aberystwyth (the unofficial gay capital of Wales, we've been told) features an impressive bill of movies throughout the weekend, including the Czech film Mandragora. Part of the 9th Welsh International Film Festival, it will also feature a 1970s style disco, screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Ceri Dupree presenting an evening of well known gay icons.

Explore the world of Finnish cinema at the Barbican's Cinema of Finland. A mixture of classics, children's films and new releases including six premieres. Highlights include Freakin' Beautiful World, which Variety labelled Finland's answer to Trainspotting, and The Land of Happiness, which is about the Finnish contribution to the tango.

Ways With Words is sponsoring a Literary Weekend at Bury St. Edmunds, comprising a series of lectures from well-known authors and journalists. Among those speaking will be award-winning journalist John Suchet, who will discuss his novel about the life of Beethoven.
