Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

heard... Chris Chavez. Brings the sounds of New Mexico to the heart of London. This dreadlocked singer is a virtuoso when it comes to acoustics, with a sound that is reminiscent of the Doors and Eastern-influenced blues. 12 Bar Club, Denmark Place, Denmark St, London (0171-209 2248), 8pm. Tickets: pounds 5.

read... The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie (Vintage, pounds 6.99). A powerful collection of short stories by this Native American writer paints a bleak picture of American reservations where there is plenty of drinking, fighting and underachieving, but where the beliefs of a rich tribal history continue.

watched... Wilde. Top of the charts, this biopic features Stephen Fry in the role he was born to play. Deals frankly with the sexual issues surrounding the bard's turbulent lifestyle. And even though the film upset Wilde's grandson, it was a hit with the critics.
